Jeffrey Steen is a senior partner with the firm. He has expertise in all facets of IP law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and unfair competition. Mr. Steen has extensive experience in all phases of patent and trademark prosecution. With respect to patents, he works with clients primarily in the biotechnology and chemistry sectors with an emphasis on pharmaceuticals and medicine. While he counsels clients on a variety of issues related to securing and protecting intellectual property rights, Mr. Steen has had extensive litigation experience. This combination gives him a unique perspective in strategic design of patent and trademark portfolios. His practice also includes an emphasis on conducting due diligence investigations and preparing related patent,  trademark and copyright opinions.

Mr. Steen’s early interest in the medical field prompted him to study at Long Island University’s College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences where he earned a B.S. in Pharmacy. After beginning his career as a licensed pharmacist and managing a community pharmacy, he was drawn to the possibilities of patent law and went on to earn his J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law. Mr. Steen has 30 years of experience in IP law in both procuring IP rights and pursuing litigation in the district courts.

Mr. Steen is well aware of the perils a business faces if it fails to protect its innovations and he offers clients a high level of personal service, particularly with respect to counseling and providing patent validity and freedom to operate opinions. Mr. Steen dedicates himself to understanding complex technical issues and understanding our clients’ needs.   Mr. Steen conducts validity analyses, freedom-to-operate and clearance searches and prepares opinions on patentability and trademarks. He also counsels clients on a wide range of matters related to infringement, procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
