Christopher Trainor is a partner and has been with the firm since 2002. He has an extensive background in IP law with an emphasis in patent prosecution, including conducting patent validity analyses and freedom-to-operate studies. He also has a great deal of experience preparing patent opinions in connection with portfolio design strategies and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Trainor’s expertise is primarily in the electromechanical and mechanical arts; he works with clients who are building portfolios of medical and surgical devices. In this realm, he has developed a long-standing relationship with Medtronics and has helped the company vastly broaden its scope in the medical device sector.

In some ways, pursuing a career in IP law was a natural progression for Mr. Trainor, since his father was the chief patent attorney with Bell Labs. After earning his B.S. in marine engineering at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Mr. Trainor became a patent examiner with the USPTO. During this time, he also began his legal studies and earned his J.D. at the George Mason University School of Law.

Mr. Keely is highly analytical. His technical and legal expertise help clients resolve the complex issues that often arise during procurement of patent protection. He has a thorough knowledge of the patent applications process and is an expert in constructing well thought-out patent claims. In addition to having has a unique ability to relate to clients in a straightforward manner, Mr. Keely is also a team player who enjoys mentoring junior associates.  Mr. Keely routinely conducts due diligence and state-of-the-art investigations and other analyses and prepares invalidity and non-infringement opinions.
